My Fall Garden {Garden}

Living in the "high desert" brings its own unique challenges in the garden but it also has some benefits.  Here it can easily reach 120 degrees F in the Summer and drop to below freezing in the Winter.  It is hard to grow all of the things that are found in other places, but with much patience and tender care it is possible.  One fun benefit is that we really have two growing seasons.  Spring and then again in the Fall.  Well I have been so busy the past few years that my garden is more of maintenance instead of adding new things.  Maybe next year I will plant something new again.  Until then I find much joy in searching for the beauty that this Fall brings to my garden and for the changes that it brings to the plants I do have.  I share with you what I found today.

This is my ornamental flowering plum tree which has tiny ornamental fruit and beautiful leaves that are starting to turn red and orange.  This is the only tree that I have that turns color like this!  I enjoy it!

The white flowers of my pyracantha bushes have turned to bright red berries and will stay red all winter.  I love to look at these out my kitchen window and watch the robins and sparrows devouring them!

My favorite cascading purple wisteria flowers have turned into these fabulous pea like pods!

A few leftover almonds from my dwarf almond tree.

 Beautiful rose hips just waiting to be trimmed.  I find such a beauty in these and have actually used them in a Fall flower arrangement before!  These are climbing roses along my front wall. 

I have so many rose bushes that I can always find one more Fall bloom before the Winter temperatures really hit us.  This makes me happy to find!

Another dark coral beauty I found in the front yard.  Probably the last of the season.

I find a Robins deserted nest.  I will have to do a future post just on all of the bird families I have in my yard!

I love the strange look of the seed pods that come from my Magnolia tree.  The pod is full of bright red seeds!

Acorns from my huge and beloved Oak tree!  This tree stays green year round and drops leaves with new buds for a couple of weeks each Spring.  The bright green bottom of this acorn will turn brown in the Winter.

Bright and cheerful mums fill flowerbeds and we are lucky to have them bloom both Spring and Fall here!

Finally surprise of the day is when I find some blooming and many budding paperwhites!  They smell so wonderful and this bulbed flower also blooms every Spring and Fall here!  I didn't show my herbs that grow year round here in Las Vegas but I am working on an upcoming project to share with you about my herbs.  My garden isn't in the best shape right now but I look past the brown patches and weeds and find the beauty right underneath my feet and enjoy what it has to offer me!  I hope that I am never too busy to stop and find the Fall beauty that is around me. Actually I am too visual and easily distracted to miss this! Whether it be at your house or just a plant you are passing by, what beauty do you see outside this Fall?
