Quilted Heart Sweatshirt {Sewing}

Quilted Dresden Plate Heart LOVE

I love Valentines Day and everything about it, especially Hearts!!!
I really think that my love for hearts is the whole reason that I love Valentines Day so much.
{That and the fond memories of passing out Valentines to friends as a child.}

So in honor of my Heart Love and Valentines Day, I am sharing creative Valentines ideas with you all next week.
I'm starting now with this sweet little sweatshirt!

While my girls were growing up I made many special outfits for them to wear on the holidays.
Sweatshirts are fun and easy to embellish for any occasion.
I simply took a sweatshirt and cut off the bands at the bottom of the body and the arms, and then appliqued a heart shaped Dresden Plate to the front.

I love the applique quilt pattern called The Dresden Plate {which is usually an evenly shaped circle}
and
REALLY LOVE the Heart Shaped Dresden Plate!
I mean whats not to love about this?!
{Especially for a heart lover such as myself!}
I dug into my Valentines Fabric and found some with tiny hearts that would each be a scene stealer in my vision!

Once I pieced together the heart I turn the edges under and appliqued it to the sweatshirt.
Sweatshirts are thicker than normal cotton that you would quilt on so your invisible stitch used to attach will need to be closer and will show up a tiny bit.
Then I used a white thread to make a quilting stitch.
I did this around the center heart, in the ditch on each plate seam line, and then around the whole Dresden Plate just to outline.

Because the sweatshirt is thicker your outline quilting stitch will need to be a bit longer to show up better.

Then all that is needed is to attach a tiny little mom love label and the LOVE you stitched in the tiny shirt goes with them always!
I love making Valentines gifts and giving them so I want to know
~What's the best Valentines gift that someone has made you?

  2. That is just adorable Wendy! I love it! Every day I keep thinking about dragging my sewing machine out, because of you! One of these days I bet it will be sitting on the dining room table! Such great inspiration and encouragement!

    I think the "made" Valentine's gifts I love most are the ones my kids made me when they were little....... followed by Rochelle's homemade treats! :)
