Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese Calendar.
The Chinese year 4710 begins on January 23, 2012.
Some traditions are so fun to celebrate and beautiful to see!
Even though I am not Chinese, I love to take advantage of the sights and sounds of this holiday.
Last year was the Year of the Rabbit {which I loved because I am a rabbit!}
but this year being the Year of the Dragon did not disappoint me at all!
You know that my favorite spot is
The Bellagio Resort Conservatory in Las Vegas.
I head over there often to get my seasonal floral "fix"!
This year was no exception!
They will be on display through March 4, 2012 with live music nightly from 5-6 pm.
My favorite were the Chinese Children with elaborate costumes made of fresh flowers!
I'm always amazed at the details of the flowers...
and the careful placement of the trees with the sunlight shining down upon them...
and the hand painted scales on all five of the dragons!
There are many other events going on around Vegas for this holiday!
You won't want to miss out on the fun at
so be sure to check out these links.
My Chinese New Years will definitely start out with dinner at
which is around the corner from me near Green Valley
and remains a hidden local favorite after many years!
The color "Red", Fireworks, Gold Coins, Lanterns, Dragon Dance, Traditions, Family...
These are some of the symbols of a Chinese New Year.
So tell me...
What do you think of when you hear the words "Chinese New Year"?
What traditions do you have to celebrate this day, if any?
If you don't have any then maybe it's time to start a new one this year!
