Herbal Sachet {Home}

January is a great time to go through your linens -  discard the ragged, replenish needed items and just freshen everything up.  Unless you're The Queen, this doesn't get done magically by itself so any help in keeping things fresh is a good idea!

In organizing and cleaning this week, I went to discard a large branch of dried bay leaves, out of the garage, from a few months ago {check out my Fall Harvest post on bay leaves here if you missed it}
 http://wendyshat.blogspot.com/2010/12/fall-harvest-christmas-gifts.html
Anyways, it still smelled so strong that I couldn't get rid of even one leaf!  So...here is the idea that popped in my head so I could use my bay leaves in another way!

I grabbed some scraps of materials that I had laying around and came up with instant herbal sachets!

Simply stuff your bag with dried herbs of any type.  I have an unlimited supply of bay leaves so that is what I used!  I also used 4.5 x 7 inch organza pouches {find them in any craft store wedding section}.  You could easily make a simple drawstring pouch but I already had these leftover from something and it was instant success!

Then I cinched up the pouch and tied some ribbon around it and had something simple and useful and really quite fabulous!  I added a button to one of my bows and used different ribbons and now my mind is spinning of how I can decorate more of these little fragrant pouches!

 Now you have the perfect little herbal pouch to simply scent anywhere in your house!  My bay leaves {and any other you might use} have such a fresh smell to bring a nice touch anywhere.

Like in that cupboard that houses all of the old beach towels!  Any linen closet really!

Simply tuck one into your dishtowel drawer or with your tablecloths and napkins!

Or simply hang one on the kitchen hutch to smell every time you pass by it's way!  Simple enough, huh!  There is so much you can do with this idea and only your creativity is stopping you now!  So come on get up off of that couch and organize a drawer and make it smell wonderful!  You will be glad you did!  Tell me - How do your drawers smell?

  1. Those are way cool. Did you grow those bay leaves yourself? I've never grown it so I have no idea how it works.

  3. Wendy I put bay leaves on my dish shelves and sometimes use rosemary sprays around because I love their smell or mint.

  4. I'm always telling people to grow their own herbs, and so often they say, "But what will I do with all that I cannot use?" And now I know what to tell them!
