There's nothing quite like a fresh coat of paint to brighten up a garden bench when Winter is finally over!
I was so excited that I didn't take pics of the process so I will tell you that it is easy to do. I chose spray paint for my DIY project and purchased them from Home Depot. My old bench was a light gray metal before so I first sprayed it with a black coat of primer {Rustoleum brand to help prevent rust from wearing the metal down over time since it will be used outside} followed by a couple of coats of a red color Rustoleum spray paint. I have a lot of experience with painting things red at my home. I first painted my dining room red many years ago and it is the hardest color to work with. I do recommend using a dark primer always. You will still need at least two coats of red to achieve the deep color you see here.
My reasons for choosing the color red on this garden bench are as follows...
This particular garden bench sits on my sideyard driveway next to my garden gate that has an arch of red roses above it.
My house is white with cape cod gray trim and red bricks. Hummingbirds are attracted to red and I have a fond love for them {especially since my street is named after them}!
So I chose red as my accent color when I painted my front door.
I have large red painted address numbers painted above it.
Because I live on the corner lot of my cul-de-sac I really have two front yards. So I also have an address plaque on the sideyard above the garage doors. {In red of course!}
Because of the red front doors I mix red cyclamen in with my signature pink, purple and white colored only flower gardens!
Red geraniums are placed in flower beds underneath two large bay windows in front.
Red snapdragons ready to burst along the driveway!
Of course my favorite "Fourth of July" roses covering my sideyard wall!
This year my red roses were the first to pop in my garden and they are glorious! Are you finished with Winter yet? What have you done to get ready for Spring? Sometimes all it takes is for the warm sun to shine again {and a fresh coat of paint} to snap out of those Winter blues!

ReplyDeletePerfect color choice!
ReplyDeleteOfcourse it had to be red....having your door in mind and those red/pink roses red seemed to me the most natural color to choose. It looks great! Not just the bench. All is red, except those fingers of yours. They are definetely mega GREEN. You are truly not just the lady with the hat, but also the Gardenlady.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to you showing us this years roses in all its beauty.
Love the photo of the hummingbird feeders. Looking forward to some spring like that here in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteSo what you're saying...... is you like red - tee hee :D
ReplyDeleteI *love* what you've done and all the red accents with paint and flowers and everything! You know I love red too :) And the reason a tinted primer works best with red is because red has the largest molecules of all colors... that's why white primer will show right through and it can drive you nuts.
My pink roses are blooming, and my cousin helped me decorate my porch yesterday - pics coming on my blog soon - so spring is finally looking good around here too! xoxoxo
Oh, pretty!
