Applique Pillow {Sewing}

Let me tell you a secret!  I have a thing for 1930's reproduction fabrics!  It is my favorite fabric to collect {and use} and has been for about 20 years now.  I think it is a combination of my love for things bright and cheerful and childlike.  They just make me happy!

This appliqued laurel wreath pillow shows you an example of some of my fabrics from the 1930's reproduction line.  I have tons of it.  Some on bolts, some in bins, some already cut into squares just waiting for me to have time, and some I just look at {because it was limited and cannot be purchased again}!  I have millions of ideas just fluttering around in my head, of things I can do with these fabrics!

I've backed my pillow with the typical red from that era, that has fun scotty dogs on it!

I love the three dimensional look that real applique gives a project, whether it be a quilt or a pillow or a bag or a skirt.

What really cute project wouldn't be complete without the detail that a simple button can bring!

I love the prints with tiny flowers and the children and animals and especially the "bubble gum PINK" from this era!

An expert {and a favorite fabric designer of mine} on 1930's reproduction fabric is Judie Rothermel and this year Marcus Brothers Fabric Company is celebrating their 100 years in business!  If you aren't familiar with either of these creative geniuses you will definitely want to check them out!  I wouldn't be having so much quilting and sewing fun without them!

Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries anyways so why not have some fun with it!

What do you think of the colors and prints found in the 1930's reproduction fabrics?  What would you make out of them if you could make anything?

  3. Wendy, your applique work is always so incredible! I love 1930's fabrics too, for the same reasons you do - it's so cheerful and happy :) I have several quilts made from original fabric and some of the patterns are just adorable, like little kitty faces :)
