Picnic Quilt {Sewing}

The sun is out and Spring Fever is old news so... it's officially picnic season everyone!  Well really any season is a great season for a picnic but I prefer the warm sunny ones best of all!

Who wouldn't want to go on a picnic every day with your own picnic quilt!  It's so easy that anyone can make one! This would be a great project to learn how to sew with. {Well if you don't sew, or know someone you can beg to make one for you, then run to the store or raid your mothers closet and get one for yourself!}

What's a picnic without ants?  I wanted something fun and whimsical for my picnic quilt so I chose fun fabrics with ants and bugs and vegetables from a garden for my fabrics.   I finished it off with a machine quilting pattern of squiggly lines that looked to me like bug trails!

 I simply cut them into 8 1/2 inch squares of fabric so when I sewed them together using 1/4 inch seams I ended up with 8 inch finished blocks.  I used 9 blocks across and 12 blocks down.

I used a red plaid for the quilt back and binding.

So last night I had the chance to use my picnic quilt once again at Jazz in the Park!  {I had an excellent spot right next to the stage!}

I wrangled up everyone I could...

and joined the other smart people in Las Vegas for Jazz in the Park!

We enjoyed the perfect weather {with a light cool breeze}.  The moon was out...

and the stage was set at the Clark County Amphitheater . Where they host a FREE Jazz in the Park concert series every Spring {for about 5 weeks in a row}!

Last night we were treated to a favorite of mine {I look forward to them coming every year} Spyro Gyra!  As usual they were incredible and oh so talented!  Hearing them play my favorite song "Morning Dance" was so fabulous that it will carry me through the whole year! Yes it was that good!!   I'm sorry for my friends that couldn't just drop everything and run over to the park last night.

Moral to my story is... If you keep a stocked picnic basket...

and a picnic blanket ready to go at all times, you will be more likely to use them and just run away on a picnic!

My picnic quilt makes me happy!  Using it with the ones I love makes me even happier!  I could go to Jazz in the Park every weekend!  SO tell me...  Do you have a favorite picnic blanket?  What is your favorite picnic memory?

  3. That is such a cute quilt - and only you would be so creative to pick out such adorable fabric! Love it! I can't believe we've been married almost 30 years and have never had an official picnic blanket!

    How FUN to see Spyro Gyra! I haven't heard them in years! It sounded like an awesome evening - and the cutest family ever of course! :D

  5. This is a super cute quilt. This reminds me. You made Cam and I one kind of like it a few years ago for Christmas, but then you took it home to finish the binding. Then, it got put in storage by mistake with your Christmas decorations. You told me to remind you, but I didn't ever want to bug you. If you ever run across it, we would still love it.
