Summer Window Box {Home & Garden}
Crisp, clean and white is the color I am going with in my window boxes this Summer.
It's no secret that I love flowers! I had these window boxes added to the upstairs windows of my home when I moved here many years ago. I battled for a while and finally decided that I would have to go with silk flowers those many years ago. I know... I know... the thought of putting silk flowers outside nearly killed me at first. I had to learn to get over it and just change them out often {at least 4 times a year} to keep them looking great. Living in the desert and having front windows that face the West equal sizzling temperatures {probably 125 degrees or more} in these metal boxes for most of the year. Nothing else works up there and I can't have it looking bad when there are flowers and green everywhere else at my home.
Here's a peek at one corner of my home. See how the added shutters and window box upstairs brought balance to the large bay window below. There is an identical one on the other corner.
I was inspired to use white this time because of the pure white blooms that I have on my two Magnolia Trees. I love June when they are in full bloom! I love using white flowers in my garden. They add so much and seem to light up in the dark as well. Many years ago I had to opportunity to visit The Buchart Gardens in Canada and was delighted to also go on a special night time tour of the white flower garden. I learned then that by adding white to my own flower gardens I would be adding yet another dimension at night. To this day I still mix white flowers in all of my flower beds.
I also add white with my pots of Gardenias that I shared already.
So although there is no "POP" of color this time. White it is. The lack of color {white} up there is a first for me. So neutral and subdued is my look this Season. I'm blending in this Summer. What do you think? Do you have window boxes? Do you do something seasonal on the outside your home for each of the four seasons? I want to hear all about it!
Very nice! Your window box is so pretty! Thanks for stopping by my blog and following! I'm glad to have you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I have some flower boxes on our balcony but I have a black thumb so they just have some violas in them.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for choosing artificial,, that sun would be a battle you would never win,, besides the artifcial ones today are beautiful and aren't crazy exspensive as they once were.I found the most beautfiul sunflowers at the dollar store,,surprise surprise,, looked everybit as good as the designer ones and a fraction of the cost,, if they last the summer good on me,, next year I'll use something else, your window boxes are beautiful very fancy,,the white is baeutiful,, i love white,
ReplyDeleteI love your window box! It's so pretty.

very pretty~
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the window box love!
ReplyDeleteHello dear,
ReplyDeleteI love the box and the color you choose. White is so serene, so mysterious and classy. I love white flowers, usually I buy white ones for inside use. I don't have anything near green thumbs, so I don't have many flowers in my garden, just one hortensia in a pot. I'm trying to have some more, but am still looking for an idea to make it a nice fitting total picture, in the small space that I call my garden. I really don't have that many options to put flowers. I prefer to use white ones as they come off great next to the green buxus.
Seeing all your pics inspires me to do something, but it all gets piled up onto the still-need-to-do list....and i told you, I don't have green thumbs. So, what comes natural to you, means more thinking and working for me.
But IF I do succeed in getting some great ideas and realising them....I'll sure let you know :-)
I have to admit, I was shocked at first that you used silk flowers, but it totally makes sense - I know how *HOT* it gets in LV!!! Your boxes and shutters are LOVELY and yes, they DO bring balance! I think the white looks really nice - you created a great combination of flowers, etc. And I love, love, LOVE MAGNOLIAS!!! (and your gardenias too!)
ReplyDeleteThey don't look artificial from that distant. The white is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think it is beautiful! I am looking for ideas hoping to find a box that would not require drilling into the siding. My husband plants hundreds of flowers every year and I think the window box ideas with silk flowers is perfect. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhite's a good color. The flowers look very calming and pretty... Anyway, a window box is very useful, don't you think? You have window treatments on the inside, but sometimes, it doesn't feel complete without the flower box outside.
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie. It does add so much to any window.
DeleteI think you have created some actually interesting points.
ReplyDeleteJust looking at the picture of the corner of your home, it is no doubt that the white flowers are perfect for it. With the exterior color of your home and the design of your plant box, you created an elegant and serene atmosphere. For some reasons, I like looking at your window from the outside. =)
