LEMONS ~ A spot of sunshine on a Winters Day! |
Lemons
bright, cheerful, yellow, juicy
I love lemons! If you remember last year when I shared my own lemon tree story along with a few days of recipes! Well I said it before and I'll say it again, "Everyone needs a lemon tree... for in the dreary days of Winter one can find a bit of sunshine!" So this morning I ventured outside to harvest the rest of the lemon crop from my tree. I've shared recipes before but today, for Fitness Friday, I will share with you the health benefits of adding lemon to your water and drinking it!
Benefits of adding LEMON to your drinking water!
FIRST ~ It balances the pH in your body. Lemon is acidic but when the body metabolizes it then it becomes alkaline, which is a good thing. Alkalies help keep the oxygen in your blood at a safe pH level so it can heal itself, better use the minerals in your body, and fight off sickness.
SECOND ~ Lemon water is a great way to start off your day and any meal. Many nutritionist will tell you that sleeping, going without any food or drink added to your body, is the most dehydrating part of your day. When you wake up you should have a drink of water. By adding lemon to it you are telling your body to start working and giving it a kick-start. By drinking lemon water before your meal, you are kick-starting your metabolism into digesting your food, which can help with heartburn and constipation.
THIRD ~ Lemon contains lots of Vitamin C which, besides aiding in fighting sickness, also helps with wrinkles and blemishes.
FOURTH ~ Many nutritionists will tell you that adding lemon to your water, and keeping your body in an alkaline state, can help you lose weight. Lemons are high in fiber pectin which helps to keep you full a lot longer than plain water. Lemons also have a diuretic effect that helps with water weight gain. Drinking this will fill your stomach up so you would tend to have less room for coffee or soda pop as well.
Sure you can add a bit of sugar and make your own fresh Lemonade.
You can also add sparkling water and crushed ice to make your own Lemon Spritzer.
As for me I think it's simple and flavorful by just adding it straight to the water.
So tell me... do you add lemon to your water?
Will you give it a try?
Come on now! Just cut a slice and squeeze it in!
I have to admit, I don't LOVE lemons. I HATE them in my water, and I would always choose chocolate over lemon desserts.
ReplyDeleteWell a girl can't say NO to chocolate! I still love ya anyways!
DeleteLemons are so pretty and fresh looking! Wendy, thanks so much for the invite to Pinterest! I'm still trying to figure it out. I'm going to pin your Valentine cookie recipe...and much more when I get this figured out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jill. Have fun using Pinterest!
DeleteI do! but I find it harder to do in the winter. Summertime seems to be the time I enjoy it most. I am a year round tea drinker & like a slice or squirt(lemons or limes) in that always. Not sure that counts :)
ReplyDeleteIt's easier in Summer because it is so refreshing and YES a "squirt" of citrus definitely counts!
DeleteI like drinking at this time of year, hot lemonade with honey.
ReplyDeleteOh yum that sounds delicious and warm!
DeleteLemons are so pretty and fresh looking with greenish leaves.
