Valentines Day Sugar Cookies
Hi and WELCOME to February! Today I'm sharing my LOVE for three of my favorite things ~baking ~hearts ~Valentines Day. I think I have always loved Valentines Day because it is full of love and friendship and there is always tons of pink and heart items available for me to see and/or buy! I have fond memories of Valentines parties at school and sharing with my friends. So to start this month off right I am sharing with you my famous Sugar Cookie Recipe! I've been making this recipe this since I was a girl. I spent every holiday from probably 7th grade and on, making and decorating cookies for every holiday, to give to friends. Now I am able to virtually share a Valentine Cookie with all of you MY FRIENDS! So ENJOY!
Here is a peek at the same hand written recipe card that I wrote as a girl. |
Don't remember where I found this recipe, in the 1970's, but I did make changes to what I originally found so I called it my OWN.
Oh and my daughter thinks it's freaky that my hand-writing is still exactly the same!
So here you go...
How to Make the BEST Sugar Cookies ever!
Wendys Hat SUGAR COOKIES~
1 cup butter {softened}
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
5 cups flour
1. Cream butter and sugar.
2. Beat in eggs.
3. Add sour cream, vanilla and stir well.
4. Add baking soda/powder, salt, spices, stir thoroughly.
5. Add flour and mix in well.
6. Divide dough to work with a small amount.
7. Roll out about 1/2inch thick {on floured board} and cut into shapes.
8. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 14 minutes. Take cookies out right before they turn golden. They should be soft, thick, and light.
My favorite frosting recipe for sugar cookies is a simple one too! I use my Sugar Glaze.
SUGAR GLAZE~
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 Tablespoons water
Food coloring {for these I used 1 drop of red}
Then top them with any sprinkles you want!
So now that the cookies are baked,
the mess is made,
the cookie dough is tasted,
the sprinkles are sprinkled,
the fingers are licked,
the kitchen is warmed by the oven,
and your heart is warmed with LOVE,
there is just one more thing to do...
Share one with a friend!
Me? Well I'm off to have one more cookie, need energy to clean the kitchen!
So tell me... what is your favorite cookie to make for Valentines Day?
