Desert Quilters of Nevada
Quilt Las Vegas
"Trip Around the World"
Who doesn't love seeing all the visually stimulating "eye candy" that a quilt show brings? So since LIFE has been pulling me in at least 5 different directions for the past month, I jumped at the chance to, run away, pop on over to the 22nd annual quilt show! Quilt Las Vegas 2012 started Friday and runs through Sunday, over at the Henderson Convention Center. Check out the link for more information. I have been involved with our local Desert Quilters of Nevada quilt guild for the past 21 years. I shared pictures from one of my Prize Winning Quilts before at this link. Life has taken me away from being really involved and entering any quilts in the show for the past 6 years but I still manage to get to the show and see what everyone has been up to.
The theme for this show is "Trip Around the World".
For their entries this year, quilters were encouraged to take inspiration from something that they had bought or seen during their travels around the World.
With 333 entries this year, there is certainly something for everyone at the quilt show.
From the moment you step into the building, you know you are in the "Happiest Place on Earth".
Not a bare wall in the place or a frown on any face.
Hey it's a Spring Quilt Show!
The outer walls are lined with vendors, both local and those from out of town.
You will see demonstrations, lectures, quilt appraisals, fashion shows, quilt auctions, and raffle drawings going on too.
"Poppies" by Darlene Finney |
There are many different categories {38} in this judged quilt show with 3 quilts receiving the top ribbons in each one of them. There are also special ribbons like "Best of Show" or "Judges Favorite" and a few more, although I think that anyone who takes the time to make a quilt deserves a ribbon!
"Presidents Quilt" by Bobbie Stember |
I loved what Bobbie did with her take on a traditional Sunbonnet Sue styled Quilt.
She was the outgoing Desert Quilters of Nevada Guild President and everyone made her a memory block, that she then made into her prize-winning quilt.
"Mojave Majesty" by Sandy Crawford |
There were wall hangings.
"Time" by Carolyn McKelvie |
There was a clock that was so creative.
"Barnwood" by Szanne Shull-Mayfield |
There were some very interesting framed art quilts.
There were also many incredible handmade dolls to see.
"Funky Rail Fence" by Kayla Stoner |
There was even a category for quilts made by youth.
So I enjoyed the show, saw way too many cute things, tried to take some pictures to share with you all
but the
BEST picture of the day was...
"The Sleeping Cowboy" at the Quilt Show!
Oh what our men do for us sometimes!
Have you ever entered your quilt in a show?
Do you love going to a quilt show just for fun?
Wendy!! Thank you for the lovely coverage of our quilt show!! The photos are terrific and all of the nice comments...Thank you!! I was Chair of this year's show and will also be chairing the 2013 show. I hope you'll be attending our quarterly meeting in April, I would love to meet you in person. Thanks again for all the kind words. Karyn Bruck
ReplyDeleteThanks Karyn. I recognize your name but maybe just from reading it somewhere. I used to be very active in Desert Quilters and helped plan the first few retreats and help with quilt shows, etc. My life has taken me away from that for the past 8 or so years. I hope to be there in April and will search for you there!
