Surf The Musical {Review}
The Beach Boys and their music are timeless classics that always seem to be in style. So when I heard that Planet Hollywood would be having the World Premiere of a musical featuring their music I was interested. Tonight I was excited to attend the Grand Opening Red Carpet Night for the latest show on the Las Vegas Strip. SURF The Muscial. The show was upbeat, especially since everyone already knows the music. This always seems to bring an extra element of excitement to the crowd. I noticed this also when I saw Jersey Boys. It's always fun to hear The Beach Boys music live. I was surprised at how many great hits the show was able to use in it. The sets were incredible! Loved the colors and costumes. Loved the variety. I have never before (and I go to a lot of shows) seen the effects used in the ferris-wheel and race scene. Incredible! You felt as if it was real and you were moving along with it! A must-see! The cast is made up of talented singers, actors and dancers. I will quote Mr. Hat and say "The singing was very good but the dancers stole the show!", spoken like the true former dancer that he is. I have to agree that they were talented. So if you're looking for something new to see in Las Vegas I would recommend this show to my friends. I think my teenage daughters would love it and since it's a family friendly type of show I will be bringing them soon.
I have seen the Beach Boys live so many times in my life. I have fond memories of seeing them on the beach with my toes in the sand. My first Beach Boys memory was as a teenager right here in Las Vegas. Back in the late 70's, Caesars Palace had an outdoor amphitheater they would set up in the Summer. My girlfriends and I were there right in front of the stage, having a great time too! So tell me... What's your favorite Beach Boys song? Have you heard of Surf The Musical yet?
My addition made on August 8, 2012 after reading the local Vegas paper saying the show is now rumored to close after the August 15, 2012 showing. Here is the Review Journal link.
Disclaimer - I received tickets to this show but ALL thoughts and comments of it are my own.
How fun! My husband and I were talking about going to see it and maybe even taking the kids if there's a matinee.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun!
DeleteI was there. It was AWESOME. It was FUN, Full of NOSTALGIA. The audience was on the edge of their seats and in the end the show received a standing ovation. It is a must see for everyone. You will have goosebumps while your watching. And your spirits will be so uplifted when you leave. We LOVED it and are going to see it again.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteThe story line lacks big time. Wasn't for me. Songs seemed to be jammed into certain spots, not something I would recommend, and some of the singers were pitchy as well
ReplyDeleteI heard this from a couple other people too. Most of the feedback I did hear personally did like it though. Thanks for your comments. I am adding an new update about the future of the show so check it out.
