Have you heard about Pinterest ? If so I would love to find your profile and if not, do I have a treat for you! Last October I had a Google notification that someone had linked my blog post, with my flower filled pumpkin planter, to a website called Pinterest so I immediately went to check it out. I filled out the form to become a member and then was surprised to find out that someone else linked my blog post to my button filled ornament. So I filled out the request form again and was then invited to join. Now become a very useful tool and an addiction of mine!
Pintarest is a place on the web where you "pin" your "interests" {which is a "Pinterest" }! It is the perfect place to file design pictures and ideas! A place where you can compile groups of things you want to come back to. I liken it to the design boards and files that I had in college in design classes only digital! It's a dream!
I am showing you little snippets of a few of my boards while I explain it to you a bit more. What you do is set up your profile {and it can be linked to your twitter or facebook so it is all ready to go once you get in} which is VERY simple to do and only takes a second and a click! Then you put a "Pin It" button in your bookmark bar {instructions are easy on their site} and when you see something you want to remember or come back to, you simply click it and it transfers to one of your "Boards". This lets you "Pin" images from any blogs or websites and is so simple to do. You can also look at other members boards and "RePin" things that you see and like as well!
This is a great organizational tool to keep all of your ideas together in one place. It's a great place to catalog the things you love, whether it be food, recipes, drapery treatments, wall color inspiration, tutorials, ideas, travel spots, party ideas, decorating ideas, photography, gift ideas, craft ideas, holidays ideas, a book you want to read next, business related things or just whatever you love! I follow a magazine editor that uses Pintarest to file all of her idea boards for her upcoming issues!
It's so nice to be able to come right back and see the picture and be able to click it and go right back to the original link that you saw it at. This helps you to be able to order that item you wanted, or find that recipe again, or find that tutorial on how to make that craft project you saw. Gone are the days of having thousands of bookmarks on your computer and losing things!
I already have thousands of "Pins" and 43 "Boards" and counting! I have pinned things that I want to remember for that next home design or floral project. I have pinned pictures of quilts and other sewing related items that I would like to make when I have time. I have pinned great food ideas to remember when I need that perfect treat! I have pinned garden ideas to remember when I need them. I have pinned many pictures and MANY other things to give me inspiration, which I can draw from when I am working on ANYTHING! I have a Pinterest button just on the right side of my blog here where you can also click to take you to my Pinterest page! This makes it easy for others to find you.
Of course my favorite "Boards" are my "BUTTONS" and my "PINK" and my "HAT" Boards. They are purely "Eye Candy" {because I Love It}!!
So what are you waiting for? Doesn't this sound like something that could be useful in your life {or just pure fun}?!
Pintarest is still in the beginning stages and the first people invited were people with great taste such as designers, chefs, bloggers, architects, product designers, and softwear engineers. This is why you still need to be invited. A few other bloggers have instant links to sign up for Pintarest, or you can fill out the email like I did and they accept and send you a link, or you can let me know and I can email and forward them your email {which will get you in}.
I also have met some great new friends and have had fun following interior and floral designers, and chefs, and quilting professionals as well! It sure is fun getting my creative juices flowing! What will you pin?
Here I am if you want to see MY boards!
This was a great post Wendy! I'm still trying to figure Pinterest out, but this post actually helped me a lot! I've been posting my own photos, thinking it was more of a photo sharing site (duh) - I mean, I know it is, but didn't realize you can do WAY much more than that. I will definitely start pinning more things I see online, create some more categories, and search Pinterest more as well. Thanks for your help! Hey - I still can't even figure out BlogFrog so I'm pretty pathetic! :/
ReplyDeleteHappy to see you on Pinterest Megan! P.S. Blog Frog confuses me too! Overload of information there!
