Pincushion Flower {Garden}

I love flowers and I love pincushions, so maybe that's one of the reasons why the Pincushion Flower is such a favorite of mine.

 The Pincushion Flower has had a place in my heart and my gardens for many years now. Plant it once, trim it down in Winter, and it will grow back and stay in your garden for many years to come.  I love the thin lanky stems with the burst of pale purple at each end.  Another reason that I love, it is that it attracts hummingbirds.

 And bees!  You know I have a weakness for birds, bees, butterflies and bugs {my pets}!

Just look at the bud of this flower ready to burst!

Then when it does start to burst it changes it texture once again.  I believe that this stage of the blooming process is what gave this particular flower its "Pincushion" name.  Doesn't it just look like pins in a pincushion?

Once it is in full bloom the beautiful color appears.  If you are trying to plan your Summer Garden then you won't be sorry if you add the Pincushion beauty to it this year!  Speaking of pincushions...keep an eye out for a couple of upcoming posts {in May} where I share some real pincushions that you will enjoy!  Do you have room for a pincushion in your garden?  I hope so!
