Wedding Quilt - Prize Winning {Sewing}

Sometimes everything goes your way and you end up with something special!  Well that's what happened with this particular quilt I made.

When I learned that my brother was engaged to be married I immediately had an idea!  I kind of felt obligated since the Mother of the Bride and myself set these two lovebirds up! {We were good friends and wanted to be related! *wink*}

A peek at the back and the heart design in the borders of the quilting.

A peek at the borders {I chose to have three} with the binding being the same as the smaller inner border print. In the first picture, at the top of this page, you can see the close detail of fabric choice and the swirl design that I chose for quilting in the center.  I love to quilt circular designs when the quilt has square lines to it.  Softens everything up.

The pattern was from Piecemakers and is called "Colorwash Trip Around the World".  I chose to do this with neutrals ranging from white to taupe.  I don't usually use solids {I don't think I ever have either} so each is a print with some being very subtle.  My sister-in-law wanted to do neutrals in her new home so I started with that and went from there with this quilt.  The use of many light and whites just reminded me of a wedding quilt.

I love this particular design so much that I taught this class many times at two of my local quilt shops many years ago.  It's a timeless classic and always fills up.  I also taught a color class that went great alongside this quilt class, as many people have trouble in choosing the fabrics and just need a little guidance.  Every quilt that I saw, made in this pattern, turned out just as spectacular!

I never tire of looking at this quilt even though I gave it away and never see it!  One day I am making one just like it for myself!!!  I couldn't find any pictures of it so when I was babysitting a few weeks ago {and the kids took me upstairs and I saw it in an open closet} I couldn't help myself but take these pictures to share!

A closer peek at my signature hand-stitched label {I make them for people too if you are interested} that I put on all of my large quilts.  Somehow this simple poem makes each quilt more loveable.

So the Spring after the Wedding, I entered this quilt into my local quilting guilds quilt show and was pleasantly surprised to win the very prestigious award of Best in Show Viewers Choice!  Shock to me!  I will forever be honored for this very meaningful award!

I might not have this quilt but the ribbon {and wonderful memories} are very special to me.  I am also happy to visit my quilt in it's very loving home!  Have you ever made something that seemed to turn out perfect and surprised you when everyone loved it as much as you?

Thanks for letting me share this with you.  I'm in a wedding mood today, looking back at the 25 incredible years that I have been married to the love of my life!  {April 19, 1986} Happy Anniversary to me!  I love you Mr. C!

 I am honored to have this Quilt now featured on Sew Mama Sew  by Melanie from A Sewing Journal, for their what's new in sewing trends article!  Check it out!

  4. That is a beauty, Wendy! Must have taken lots of work and love. I really like the "signature". Counted cross stitch is time-consuming...so this really was labor intense!
